10 Apr 23 – The MAFDC held the South China Sea Forum at the Trisakti Hall. This forum aimed to enrich the knowledge of the MAFDC Course Participants (CP) Serial 43/2023 related to various current issues in the South China Sea.

The forum was divided into two sessions and started with the welcoming remarks from FAdm Badarudin bin Taha, the Commandant of the MAFDC. Then, continued with the first session moderated by Dr Hoo Chiew Ping from the UKM. Among the renowned speakers presented in the first session were Ms Sumanthy Permal, Prof Carlyle A. Thayer, Prof Sato Yoichiro and Dr Hu Bo. The title for the first session was The IUU Fishing in the South China Sea: Challenges and Opportunities for Practical Maritime.

The second session was moderated by Dr Tharishini Krishnan from the NDUM. The title of  the second session was Rules-Based Maritime Order: Institutional and Regime Building in the Indo-Pasific. The second session speakers were Richard Heydarian, Dr Collin Koh Swee Lean, Aristyo Rizka Darmawan and Dr Yan Yan.

The forum ended with the closing remaks from HE Dr Justin Lee, the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia. Bravo Zulu to the organizing committees who were working tirelessly to ensure that this event went on smoothy as per plan.
