CHIEF OF NAVY
Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman joined the Navy on 24 February 1977 after completing his education at the Royal Military College. He took over as Chief of Navy on 18 Nov 2015. His previous appointment was as Deputy Chief of Navy. During the service, he held a number of positions in the Navy and Joint Services such as Chief of Staff Malaysian Armed Forces Headquater, Commander Joint Force in Kuala Lumpur, Fleet Commander in Lumut, Commander Naval Area 2 in Kota Kinabalu, and Assistant Chief of Staff (Plan and Operations) at the Naval Headquarters. His last service at sea was onboard KD JEBAT (FFG 29).
Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman graduated from the US Naval Staff Course, Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island as well as the Distinguished Graduate of the Fu Hshing Kang College, Republic of China in Political Warfare. He also attended International Surface Warfare Officer's Course at Naval Amphibious School in Coronado, San Diego. He was also a graduate of Principle Warfare Officer of HMS DRYAD, Portsmouth. He attended courses on International Crisis Management Course at the National Administrative Institute (INTAN), Kuala Lumpur and also various other military education programmes both locally as well as in Australia and the United States of America.
Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman is a spokesman for the Maritime Security and participated in several seminars and conferences including the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in India and Kuala Lumpur, US Military Operations (MILOPS) Conference in Singapore, International Maritime Organization (IMO) Conference in Jakarta, Littoral Defense Conference in Singapore, Electronic Warfare Conference in London and MIMA International Conference in Kuala Lumpur. He obtained his MBA from the University of Strathclyde Business School, Scotland and MA in Defense Studies and International Relations at the National University of Malaysia. He completed the Executive Program in Business Management in the year 2009 in the Kenan-Flagler Business School, University of North Carolina, USA.
Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman has received numerous awards and recognitions from the Federal as well as the State Governments. He was the first person to have received the Chief of Navy Medal of Merit. Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman is married to Puan Sri Noor Azrina binti Abdullah and blessed with a son. He likes reading, hiking and golfing.
