General Dato’ Sri Zulkiple bin Hj Kassim was born on 24th February 1959 and hails from Gong Kapas, Terengganu. He joined the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, England as an Officer Cadet in 1977 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the 6th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment (RMR) on 7th April 1978. General Dato’ Sri Zulkiple bin Hj Kassim holds a degree in Master of Science (Management) from University Utara Malaysia.
At the beginning of his career, General Dato’ Sri Zulkiple bin Hj Kassim has been involved in various operations against the communist insurgency mostly in the northern border of Peninsular or in the state of Pahang. For the past 39 years of service, he has held various important appointments among which includes as an Instructor at the Young Officer Tactic School in 1982, Second in Command of the 9th Battalion RMR (Para) in 1994, Commanding Officer of 17th Battalion RMR (Para) in 1994, Military Advisor to the Defence Minister in 1998, Commanding Officer of the 10th Battalion RMR at Johor in 2000, Infantry Director at Army Headquarters in 2001, Commander of the 4th Malaysian Infantry Brigade (Mech) in 2003, Director General of the Armed Forces Veterans Affairs Department in 2005, Commander of the 4th Malaysian Infantry Division in 2007 and Army Field Commander West in 2011. On 16th December 2016, General Dato’ Sri Zulkiple bin Hj Kassim was promoted to General and appointed as the 26th Malaysian Chief of Army.
To furnish himself with suitable military knowledge and skills, General Dato’ Sri Zulkiple bin Hj Kassim has also attended various courses internally and overseas such as Army Command and Staff College in 1992 and Defence and Strategic Studies Course in 1999, both of which in Australia.
In recognition for his service to the country, General Dato’ Sri Zulkiple bin Hj Kassim has been conferred various medals and awards of which, among those prominent includes the Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN), Sri Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang (SSAP), Panglima Setia Angkatan Tentera (PSAT), Darjah Gemilang Seri Mahkota Kedah (DGMK), Darjah Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang (DSAP), Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang (DIMP), Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Kedah (DPMK), Dato’ Paduka Kesatria Mahkota Kelantan (DPKK), Dato’ Setia Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin (DSMZ) and Panglima Mahkota Wilayah (PMW).
General Dato’ Sri Zulkiple bin Hj Kassim is married to Datin Sri Zaleha binti Md Yusof and blessed with three sons and two daughters. He enjoys playing most sports especially golf and soccer.
