CHIEF OF STAFF MALAYSIAN ARMED FORCES          

            Lieutenant General Dato' Abdul Halim bin Hj  Jalal was born on 13th May 1961 and hails from Pasir Puteh, Kelantan. He joined the Officer Cadet School in 1980 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the 24th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment (RMR) on 24th January 1981.

            During his career, he attended various military courses locally and abroad.  Among others, the Command and Staff Course, Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College, Haigate, Kuala Lumpur, Foreign Officer Tactical Intelligence Course in Australia and Law of Armed Conflict Course, San Remo, Italy.  Lieutenant General Dato' Abdul Halim holds a Master Degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Deakin, Australia. He also holds a Degree in Law from the MARA University of Technology.

            Throughout his illustrious carreer Lieutenant General Dato' Abdul Halim was chosen to hold various important command and staff appointment within the Malaysian Army. He served as the Staff Officer Grade 2 Law in MALBAT-IV (Bosnia) in 1995.  In June 2001, Lieutenant General Dato' Abdul Halim was entrusted to command 14th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment.

            Lieutenant General Dato' Abdul Halim was promoted to Brigadier General in 2008 and command the 12th Infantry Brigade in Kuala Lumpur. He attended the Australia Defence and Strategic Studies at the Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies, Canberra, before assuming the appointment of Commander of the 5th Infantry Brigade, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in 2010. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Army Training Headquarters at Port Dickson. He was promoted to Major General on 1st April 2013 and posted to Sabah as the first Defence Director of Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM). He was then appointed as the Assistant Chief of Staff Planning and Development Branch at the Army Headquarters on 20th December 2013 before being appointed as the Commander of 4th Infantry Division on 5th August 2015. In 2016 he was appointed as the Chief of Staff at the Army Headquarters and his current position is the Chief of Staff at the Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters. Lieutenant General Dato' Abdul Halim is a keen golfer and spends his free time reading.

Lieutenant General Dato' Abdul Halim is married to Datin Anitha binti Ahmad and the couple is blessed with five children.
