CHIEF OF DEFENCE FORCE
General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi bin Raja Mohamed Noor (411967) was born at Kg. Raja, Besut, Terengganu on 20th June 1957. He received early education at Sekolah Kg. Raja, Besut, Terengganu. He completed secondary education at Sekolah Menengah Sultan Ismail and then he attended the Pre-Officer Cadet Training Unit (Pre-OCTU), Officers Cadet School, Sebatang Karah Camp, Port Dickson. He went on to successfully complete the Officers Cadet Course at the Royal Military College, Sg Besi Camp. He was commissioned on 11th May 1977 as a Royal Malay Regiment infantry officer with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
In his career, General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi bin Raja Mohamed Noor held several positions as commander and staff officer in the Malaysian Armed Forces. He was also directly involved with the counterinsurgency operations during his days as platoon and company commander. Besides operational experiences, he has also been involved with some military training locally and abroad. Along his military career, he held several important positions such as Military Assistance to the Deputy Chief of Army, Chief Instructor at the Army Basic Training Centre, Commanding Officer of the 18th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment, Staff Officer Grade 1 at the National Security Council, Staff Officer Grade 1 Administration at the Human Resource Branch (Army HQ), Chief of Staff of the 3rd Infantry Div, Assistant Chief of Staff Planning and Development Branch (Army HQ) and also as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2nd Infantry Div. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General on 2nd June 2008 and held the responsibility as the Army Field Commander. He then went on to be the Chief of Staff of the Malaysian Armed Forces HQ on 31st October 2009. Based on his experiences and wisdom, he was promoted to the rank of General and as the Chief of Army from 15th June 2013. His arduous journey as the Chief of Army was well recognized by the people and leaders of the country. On 16th December 2016, General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi bin Raja Mohamed Noor was appointed as the 19th Chief of Defence Forces.
General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi bin Raja Mohamed Noor also attended professional military courses locally and abroad. He has a master’s degree in Defence Studies (Australia) and Master of Science in Defence and Strategic Studies (Pakistan).
General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi bin Raja Mohamed Noor is married to Puan Sri Norlida binti Hj Abdul Mubin and blessed with three daughters and a son.
